Veneers

When you look in the mirror, are you unhappy with the way you look? Is this dissatisfaction caused by the appearance of your teeth or smile? Many people in the world similarly think this way. Thankfully, there is a solution to discontent regarding your teeth. If your unhappiness stems from discoloration or misshapen teeth, dental veneers could help you. Dental veneers are thin pieces of material that are custom made to sit on top of the discolored or damaged tooth and appear identical to surrounding teeth. This means that if you have one or more teeth that are discolored, putting these on top of them will make your smile look like new again. Instead of sitting around and living in fear of smiling, showing your teeth, or just living daily life, talk to your dentist to see if you qualify for dental veneers as soon as possible. Not sure if you’d benefit from them? Keep reading for more information about dental veneers and the process behind receiving them.

How Are Dental Veneers Made?

Dental veneers are made in either your dentist’s office, if capable, or in a dental laboratory. In order to begin the process, your dentist must first examine the tooth or teeth that would need the veneer to identify whether it is capable of gripping a veneer properly. Once confirmed, your dentist will take a mold for the exact tooth or teeth. This allows them or the laboratory to shape and color the veneer to your exact specifications.

Most of the time, veneers are made of porcelain. Porcelain is sturdy, easy to clean, and known to last a long time. In the past, other materials were used, but these were deemed as lower quality and discontinued for use. After your dentist gets the veneer properly prepared to fit your tooth specifications, they will call you in for another appointment. At this time, the dental veneer bonding will occur.

What is Dental Veneer Bonding?

Dental veneer bonding occurs after your dentist receives the final copy of the porcelain veneer. It involves using a composite material to attach the veneer to the tooth. There is a very specific process that must be followed for application. First, the dentist will check to ensure proper size, shape, and color. If appropriate, your tooth will be cleaned and polished, then filed or etched down. This etching creates a grip that allows the composite glue to properly attach the veneer to the tooth.

After the texture is created, the cement-like resin is applied directly on the veneers, as this allows more control. The veneer is then placed on the etched tooth. To cure and harden, the dentist will apply an ultraviolet light to the tooth area. Once hardened, your dentist will then go back and clean up any remaining or leftover resin that hardened outside the area it should’ve.

This final touch-up makes it so you won’t have any rough spots or potential breakage in the mouth. The whole process of dental bonding should not take an extended period of time, so you’ll be out of the office in no time. After the whole process, you’ll be left with a newly finished tooth that matches the surrounding teeth in your mouth!
